Magnetic Wall Bar
Safe to mount knife-bar in drywall?
Hey there, I recently bought a magnetic kitchen knife-holder. The instructions have you drill the holes, insert anchors and then screw it down. However, I'm estimating the weight of the knife-holder, with all my knives, at 4-5 lbs. I'm nervous that the drywall won't be able to support it, and I'm not looking to ruin my knives or leave gaping holes in my wall.
To me, the "do it right" solution would be to get a length of wood, find the studs in the wall, screw the wood into the studs and mount the knifeholder to the wood.
Any advice?
4-5 lbs isn't much weight. As long as you use a good anchor, and don't swing from the block, it will be fine. Hope this helps.

How do you use magnetic stir bars aseptically?
How do you use magnetic stir bars for tissue culture or media with cells in it?
Concerns:
1) How do you make sure it's sterile before you add it to the solution?
2) Do they make spin vane stirrers that minimize the potential for grinding cells between stirrer/wall contact?
3) How do you aseptically remove the stir bar?
Thanks!
1) wrap the stir bar in two or more layers of foil. Autoclave. Do not touch the stir bar when opening the foil.
2) There are special stirring flasks for tissue culture that take this into account, not sure what they are called.
3) Remove the stir bar with sterile forceps. Or drag a magnetic stir bar grabber up the outside of the bottle, dragging the stir bar to the top of the bottle, then remove with sterile forceps.
