PLEASE HELP ME!!! (10 POINTS)?
So im an 18 yr old girl in high school. I wake up today feeling like crap coz of my period, cramps and all, so Im allowed to stay home from school. Its pooring rain and I have a sugar craving so I decided to go to starbucks for a coffe and donuts to bring home. Im wearing no make up, sweat pants that are too short for me, an ugly rain coat, hair a mess, I look like a BUM and when I got there I was soaken wet. My worst night mare was to run into someone I know and whos sitting inside and calls my name? My 2 youth group leaders from church. Thye said hi, I said hey, grabbed my stuff and darted out. I think they KNEW I was embarassed, 1 had a look on his face like hes never seen someone so ugly. Normally I always dress up really nice for church/youth group.
Also they were probably wondering why I wasnt in school.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY WERE THINKING AND HOW SHOULD I RECOVER!?

How to solve this logic problem?
40 teenagers belong to a youth club. They all play at least one of badminton, darts, and pool.
8 teenagers play all 3 games
10 teenagers play badminton and darts
20 teenagers play darts and pool
12 teenagers pool and badminton
30 teenagers play pool
23 teenagers play darts
(a) How many of the teenagers play only badminton
(b) How many of the teenagers play badminton?
I would like both an answer and an explanation. Thank You!
You can visualize this using a Venn diagram with 3 overlapping circles.
There are several distinct areas of the diagram when you look at it:
1 area where all 3 circles overlap, 3 areas where only (2) circles overlap, 3 areas of only 1 circle.
Each circle represents a different game: Badminton (B), Pool (P) and Darts (D)
8 teenagers play all 3 games: Mark 8 in the middle where all 3 circles overlap.
10 play B and D -- the intersection of the B and D circles. You already know 8 fall into the middle where all 3 circles overlap, so that means you can put a 2 in the area where only B and D overlap.
Then take the same approach for the 20 who play D and P. 8 play all three, so 12 play D and P only. 12 play P and B, so put a 4 in the area where only B and P overlap.
Now you are ready to look at 1 entire circle at a time. 30 teenagers play pool:
8 play all + 4 play B&D + 12 play B*D = 24
So 6 play pool only.
23 play darts = 8 play all + 2 play B&D + 12 play D&P + 1 plays darts only.
There are 40 players total from all 7 sections. And the only area left is Badminton.
8BDP + 2BD + 4BP +12DP + 1D +6P = 33.
So (a) 7 teenagers play ONLY badminton and (b) 21 play badminton
