Dart Board
What is the expected average score on a dart board, when throwing three darts randomly?
Assuming each dart hits a scoring number each time. If every scoring region was the same area it would be the average of all of the numbers, but the single areas are bigger than the double and treble. Then on top of that there is the 25 and 50 (bull).
On a Dart board of BDO specification (http://en.allexperts.com/q/Darts-2581/DARTBOARD-Dimensions-sizes.htm).
When the dart always hits a scoring zone of the board (ie no bounce outs and no chance of missing) and assuming that hitting a wire will give a 50/50 chance of landing either side of the section it segments, then the average one dart score will be a weighted mean by summing the scoring sections multiplied by that section's area divided by the total dart board area.
Without showing all my workings: A single segment has 4.078% total area of the dart board (81.593% for all single segments); A double has 0.551% (11.029% for all doubles); A triple has 0.339% (6.786% for all); Outer bull is 0.413% and Bull is 0.179%.
Using this the average one dart score should be = 13.214
Therefore three darts = 39.641
