Ended Steel Tip

Has anyone tried the stainless steel pots sold in Costco by the brand Kirkland? If yes, do you have problems? ?

I recently needed a new set of pots so I purchased this sturdy and high end looking ones at Costco. Since purchasing them I have had numerous problems using them and I have plently experience cooking. I have tried various pots in the past this set is not my 1st. Firstly I can't make rice in them. The rice gets this "smoky & burnt" tasting. I find food tends to stick to them in general and while I understand these are not telphon pots I think the quality is poor. Has anyone tried these particular pots if so what was your experience. Perhaps someone can offer tips/insight.

I have not used these pots, but it took me a while to learn how to cook on non-teflon pans... It is the way that it is, and you really have to be "hands on" when cooking with stainless steel...

A steel beam that is 6.50 m long weighs 354 N. It rests on two supports, 3.00 m apart, with equal amounts of the beam extending from each end. Suki, who weighs 580 N, stands on the beam in the center and then walks toward one end. How close to the end can she come before the beam begins to tip?

Net torque = 0

Let's say that Suki walks a distance x to the outside of one support before the beam starts to tip.

At that point, taking the support as the axis, we have three torques operating:

1. The long part of the beam
2. The short part of the beam
3. Suki

The net torque must be 0.

If we assume the beam is uniform, its weight per unit length (i.e. meter) is 354/6.5

1. The short part of the beam has a length
Ls = (6.5 - 3.0) / 2
Therefore its weight Ws = Ls(354/6.5)
Its center of mass is halfway along its length so its torque is:
Ts = Ws Ls / 2

2. The long part of the beam has length Ll = 6.5 - Ls, so
Wl = Ll(354/6.5)
Its center of mass is halfway along its length so its torque is:
Tl = Wl Ll / 2

3. Suki's torque is x (580)

Since the net torque must be 0 and we have Suki and the short piece of steel on one side, with the long piece on the other, we have:

Ts + x(580) = Tl

You can compute Ts and Tl numerically so you can solve this for x.
