Darts Fully

I recently "adopted" a 2 y.o. Black Lab...?
from a family that I have known for a while. They had just moved to a new, but smaller, home. They had two dogs, and needed to give one away for space reasons.
My husbands dream was to have a Black Lab, so we relieved the family of the dog. She is wonderful with us, loves my children and gets along great with my other dog (they are chasing each other around as I type). Here's my problem. She is absolutely TERRIFIED of new faces, but will come around to females after a few minutes. When a male enters my house or walks by my yard she darts to find shelter. My nephews live behind me and cut through my yard to get to theirs, so I wanted my lab to become aquainted with them When I had my nephews pet her she started peeing right there, on my chair. She is fully housebroken, so this was extremely shocking. She is so terrified of males and I feel so badly for her. Is there anything I can do to make her feel more secure and comfortable and become more social?
I used to have a German Shepherd dog that was like that. He was our "guard dog" only in that we knew someone was coming because he would run and hide. We (probably wrongfully) assumed he was abused by his former owner. He was a shelter dog when we adopted him. No one but my husband and I ever saw him for the wonderful, loving, and fun dog that he was because when anyone was around he became extremely timid. My brother tried to pet him once and he peed himself. (my dog---not my brother-- ha ha ha) The worst thing that happened was when we were having bedroom furniture delivered. He ran to our bedroom when the delivery men came and we just weren't thinking about it and since he was stuck in the room with the delivery men...... well things got ugly.... He was so scared he poop himself. The delivery man came down and said, "uh, just thought you might want to know....you dog pooped in your bedroom". UGH! That was embarrassing, but we explained to the delivery men the situation and apologized to them.
Anyway... the worst thing WE did was allow him to remain scared/timid. In fact, we coddled the behavior and didn't allow anyone to approach him. We wanted people to respect his space since we thought he had been traumatized in the past. He lived to be an old guy, happy in our home. When we got a new dog (two, actually, and they were also both German Shepherds like him) we took the puppies to "puppy training" classes. We explained the former situation and said we didn't want these dogs to be afraid of everyone. The trainer, who is extremely experienced, told us that most likely the former dog was NOT abused but rather was not properly socialized. Since then, I've done a lot of reading about dog socialization and I believe the trainer hit the nail on the head.
My suggestion to you: take your new Lab to "group" obedience classes. There she will learn to be around other dogs and PEOPLE. Before you sign up, speak with the trainer about your goals; which in this case isn't so much to actually "train" the dog as to socialize her. The trainer may have special classes for this particular purpose. Another thing we did with yet another shelter dog we adopted who was extremely timid, was take her "shopping." We went to the local shopping plaza, sat on the bench, and just allowed her to hide behind the bench. We did it again and encouraged her to sit between us. Then we did it again and allowed people to say hello. Then we did it again and allowed SOME people to briefly pet her. We also walked her at the plaza---not slowing down when people came the other direction. That way she knew she would not have to stop to confront them. Eventually, this all worked. She is now much, much better. Like a different dog, really. She still isn't crazy about strangers, but she doesn't cower around them.
Good luck. You CAN get past this obstacle. And I also want to commend you for taking in a dog who needed a home.

How to make hollow stefan darts
Help with my aquarium please. Easy Points!?
Ok i currently have a fully cycled tank (fish have died so dont go off on me for low stock) I have 5 tiger barbs, 1 plecostomus, and a new Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami. My goal is to get to the point to where I have a full community aquarium with slow moving graceful fish. Unfortunately I have encountered a problem. My gourami is a spaz. He darts up in down in the same corner looking at himself. And when he goes to the other side he darts like crazy. I know this isnt normal because gouramis are slow and graceful. I bought him 2 days ago.. Is it because my 5 tiger barbs are harassing him? What should I do? I need help
30 gallonl
Tiger Barbs are not slow and graceful and those long tendrils will make a tempting target. You could add more Tigers and hope the bigger shoal quiets them down, but that might not work.
Hard to say it's even the barbs that are the problem. Try blocking his reflection, he might be having a fight with himself. It has been known they are related to Siamese Fighters. You don't say how big your tank is, but giving him a couple of females might sort things out.
Basically it's trial and error, if it's the barbs, he will be showing fin damage, if it's his reflection remove it and see what happens.
Gourami can be peculiar fish on a good day especially the males, the only real advice is make sure the lid is on while he's performing, because they can jump.
Edit: If that's all the fish you have in 30 UK gallon, then rule out the barbs, it could easily keep out of their way as they would only be interested in themselves. Doubt it's a reflection unless there is something behind the tank that's bugging it.
It's a dwarf
) so give the guy some Opaline/3 Spot/Orange females. They can interbreed, but the challenge should keep him otherwise occupied.
