Yes. I got the space station schedule off the web before I went camping last year (I live in the city where there's too much light to see it). Sure enough, on the two nights it was supposed to be visible, I was able to see it. The first time it was almost straight overhead so I was able to track it for about 20 seconds. I was very surprised at how bright it was and how fast it moved (like a beeline). The second time it just crossed a far corner of the horizon so I only saw it briefly. A very cool experience and I will try it again when I'm in a good "dark" viewing place. I've never tried the space shuttle although I've seen it in the sky right after launch and I live over 400 miles away from the launch site in Florida.
